Things & Stuff, Spring/Summer 2022 Edition

Good morning on this last day of March 2022 in what a friend has aptly called “a barely United States”. I’ve been remiss in communicating about my goings-on lately, but it’s neither for lack of desire nor for lack of goings-on! In fact, I’ve been facing so many overlapping deadlines and so much planning for this year and next that I’ve finally transitioned out of my day job, which has taken some doing. I am so relieved and excited to be writing full-time, at least for as long as I can. Here are some things I’m looking forward to in the coming months:

  • Beginning tomorrow! University of Nebraska Omaha performs No Ladies in the Lady’s Book this weekend.

  • June 3rd-5th: After a series of COVID-related postponements, the first production of Companionship with orchestra comes to the Virginia Arts Festival.

  • July 22nd: A brand new version of Lesson Plan for live virtual performance premieres at the Caramoor Festival. The magnificent Stephanie Blythe and Laquita Mitchell reprise their roles, but they’ve got new things to say for a much bigger audience without Zoom jokes.

Further details about all of the above are available in my Events Calendar. But as usual, there’s even more than that happening. I have two very big, thrilling announcements about new projects coming within the next couple of weeks. So please watch this space closely in April! Meanwhile, below is the video for a song I recently wrote for White Snake Projects’ Sing Out Strong: Remembered Voices. I had the privilege of being connected with Hank Warner, brother of the late Eric William Warner, whom I’ve honored by telling his story in “Prison Lawyer”. Eric died in prison from COVID-19 at age 57 after teaching himself law and helping many of his fellow inmates learn about their own rights. The WSP playlist contains a whole virtual concert of memorial songs.

More anon,
